“Merchant of Death” Picked Up In Thailand

2008 March 7

The one some have called “the merchant of death” was recently apprehended in Bangkok, Thailand where he may have run an international base of arms dealing to terrorists.   Viktor Bout is suspected of supplying weapons to the Taliban and Al Qaeda and of pouring huge arms shipments into civil wars in Africa with his own private air fleet.

Over the years, this guy and associates operated an arms bazaar, selling guns, ammunition, even tanks and helicopters in deals that inflamed conflicts in Afghanistan, Angola, Congo, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Sudan.

He is said to be the inspiration for the movie, “Lord of War” , with Nicholas Cage.

It’s interesting to me that he was picked up in Thailand.  Is this where all of the low lifes go to lay low?  Remember John Mark Karr and most recently, Christopher Paul Neil

What is it that draws them there?  It’s a good thing the Thai authorities are cooperative so that those who are running from the crimes they committed can be caught and brought to justice.  Keep nabbing them Thailand.

    Hi there,

I live in Thailand and find it interesting that very little about this man has appeared in the media here. No doubt, as in the movie version, he’s doing deals to facilitate his release.

In answer to your question, a lot of lowlifes come here to Thailand because of the …how can I put it politely…lax, moral rectitude here in respect of the boys in blue (or should that be boys in brown here?). In other words it’s easy to buy your way out of trouble here and I guess he figured that his money would do the talking and he’d be easily able to escape. The same thing happened to the Natzis after WW2 – e.g. they fled to countrires where if they were located they could negotiate e.g. S American counties like Paraguay etc.

You mention ‘…John Mark Karr and most recently, Christopher Paul Neil’ and you could add Gary Glitter and a few other lowlifes as well like the 70 paedophiles who were arrested here last week.

As I say in my bog though, it was only a matter of time before the Word of Law caught up with the Lord of War and I personally find it hard to find a modicum of pity for such an evil merchant of death.
